Photographer and Author of 'That Tree' to be in Vinton March 22nd

"That Tree", photographer and author, Mark Hirsch, will be in Vinton on Saturday, March 22nd at 10 am signing books at the Vinton Public Library at 510 2nd Avenue.   Hirsch's story of finding the hidden beauty in your life and of personal healing as told through the stories and photos of a lonely Bur oak in the middle of a cornfield has resonated deeply with millions of Americans.

Farmers put food on our plate, produce fiber, fuel and renewable resources, while protecting our land, air and water. Benton County Farm Bureau leaders are planning to celebrate National Agriculture Day on Tuesday March 25, 2014.

Pressure Canner Testing Dates

Pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge should be tested each year for accuracy. Rachel Wall, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Nutrition and Health Specialist, will be offering testing of dial gauge pressure canners. 'Cruisin through the Decades' concert set for Tuesday; free admission

 'Get this party started: Final rehearsals are in full swing for “Cruisin’ Through the Decades”, the upcoming Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Vocal Concert.    The event will begin at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18, in the high school auditorium. The seventh and eighth grade choirs, the show choir and several small ensembles will perform classic music from the last six decades.

Beef feedlot manure management field day set for March 24, near Dysart

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a beef feedlot manure management field day on Monday, March 24, from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Earnie Anniss farm south of Dysart, Iowa. The purpose of this field day is to demonstrate dry manure spreader calibration, manure management, and nutrient application for optimum crop utilization. Angie Rieck-Hinz, Greg Brenneman, Dan Huyser, and Denise Schwab, ISU Extension specialists, will demonstrate the spreader calibration procedures, briefly review manure management regulations for dry manure, and stockpiling regulations.

Blessed Hope Church to hold Spaghetti Supper

Blessed Hope Adult and Youth Missions to hold All you can eat Spaghetti Supper to raise fund for future missions trips helping those at home and abroad. The supper will be held at the American Legion on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. There will also be a pie auction featuring homemade pies baked by the local congregation. Cost will be $6.
